The present document discusses mechanism of prebiotic fibers, particularly fructo-oligosaccharides for their role in immune response across target groups such as infants and young children, elderly and pregnant women. Studies report lower respiratory tract infections, decreased risk of infections, decreased inflammation, and enhanced expression of immune-regulatory cytokines.
